Do you need your own USDOT/MC authority?
App platforms (GoShare, Frayt, Dispatch and similar) generally don't require your own authority. Load boards such as Amazon Relay and Uber Freight do. Interstate for-hire carriers of regulated freight generally need a USDOT number and operating (MC) authority from FMCSA; weight thresholds and intrastate rules vary — check FMCSA registration and your state DOT.
